GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS VISION AND MISSION

Vision:

The Geographic Information Systems program aims to realize the necessity of science in the best way. At the same time, it adopts universal norms as a principle, can think analytically in solving professional problems, is productive, questioning, multi-disciplinary, work-oriented, entrepreneurial, and leader. In addition, it is to train individuals who develop projects that will care about the country's development, have the ability to conduct scientific research, use the experience and experience they have gained for the benefit of society, and can work together in the national and international arena.

Mission:

Geographic Information Systems Associate Degree Program is to become a respected program in the national and international arena that contributes to the country's economy with scientific, research, and strategy development studies in education and training.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS

General Introduction of the Section: It helps users in decision-making processes based on space/location to solve the world's complex social, economic, and environmental problems. For this purpose, large volumes of geographic data are the hardware, software, personnel, geographical data, and method that fulfills the functions of collecting, storing, processing, management, spatial analysis, querying, and presenting. GIS is a general concept; There are GIS applications developed for various usage areas and thematic issues. These GIS applications Urban Information System, Forest Information System, Highways Information System, Land Information System, Land Registry and Cadastre Information System, Logistics Information System, Internal Security Information System, Vehicle Tracking Information System, Traffic Information System, Campus Information System, Earthquake Information System, Map Information System, etc. as they are named.

In a conceptual classification, GIS is hierarchically placed under the category of System first and then Information System. In a functional classification, GIS falls under technology first and then Information Technology.

Geographic Information System is a technology related to geography, cartography, and computer science and is included in Information Technologies, one of the components of Geographic Data Infrastructure. It allows visual-based data to be processed and used appropriately.

GIS has been defined in different ways according to various scholars. For example, according to some researchers, GIS is a scientific concept that includes all spatial information systems and examines geographic information; According to some, it is a computer-based tool that digitizes spatial data and is characterized as a database management system that assists the organization.

Accordingly, the definition of GIS in its most general form is as follows;

"Geographic Information Systems is an information system that collects, stores, processes and presents the graphical and non-graphical information obtained by location-based observations in integrity."

Purpose:

In our country, it is necessary to eliminate the lack of trained personnel in scientific studies, public institutions, and private sector geographical information systems and technologies. In this way, technology will be able to be used effectively, and systems that are created every year, especially by public institutions, with a cost of millions of dollars, will not remain idle. In addition, as a result of the more widespread and effective use of this technology, especially in studies focused on planning, geology, agriculture, and forestry, the quality of studies on this basis will increase.

The Future of Geographic Information System Program

GIS which started to be implemented with the development of information and computer technology is used for tracking and planning in many professions and business lines. In its most general definition, GIS is to collect all kinds of data in a computer environment by associating them with each other and their geographical locations and monitoring them graphically or in print. Considering that the earth is a geographical space, it is seen that natural and human events occurring on earth are directly or indirectly related to geography. Primarily since the beginning of the 21st century, it has provided great convenience to humans in almost all areas of life with its superior technology, tools, and methods such as geography science, Geographic Information Systems, Global Positioning System, Remote Sensing, computer and internet. In a century in which we live in the information age, it is essential to find new solutions to society's problems by collecting, producing, and obtaining different results by questioning the information. Geographical Information Systems, which enable all geographical knowledge of the earth to be transferred to the computer environment, to be asked and analyzed, is an essential tool used in every stage of life to produce permanent solutions to the problems faced by societies.

Opportunities of the Geographic Information System Program

Graduates who complete the Geographic Information Systems Associate Degree Program will find employment opportunities in the public and private sectors.

 Graduates who have completed the Geographic Information Systems Program; can find the opportunity to work in public institutions and organizations in the fields of Surveying, Hydrological Applications, Geological Applications, Forestry Applications, Agricultural Applications, Maritime and Coastal Management, and Military. Graduates can be employed in all information service points, especially database management and spatial database applications, a rapidly developing industry in our country.

In addition, those who complete the program will be in the status of 2-year associate degree graduates and can make a vertical transition to formal and distance education undergraduate programs.

If our students complete the Geographic Information Systems program, on the condition that they get sufficient points in the external transfer exam conducted by ÖSYM, the faculties;

.Geomatics Engineering

· Urban and region planning

· Information Systems and Technologies

· Computer-Informatics

. Computer and Instructional Technologies Teaching

· Computer and Information Systems

· Computer Technologies and Information Systems

· Computer Science

They can continue their education in one of their departments.

INTRODUCTION

It was founded in25.09.1994. Between the years 94-95 our school started with the import export and accountancy programs. Between the years 2005-2006 insurance department was opened and the school has continued with three departments since then. The school educates the necessary staff for the country.
